About Julia Linstead
Julia’s bowls are hand blown to her specification by the studio glassblower Jane Charles. Julia uses a palette of vibrant colours within the crystal and then sandblasts a unique pattern into the surface of the glass. Her designs are drawn from nature especially the native flora and fauna of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
Julia produces one off pieces and commission work along with the repeatable work shown in the Gallery.
“I think changing light on coloured crystal is magical. I love working on the surface with sandblasting to create reflections, illusions and depth, to complement the clean shapes of the bowls. I really enjoy the collaboration with Jane as each bowl is different and has a vitality and energy within the form.”
Julia has been in business since 1989, moving to the Hirsel in 1993. She regularly exhibits in galleries across Great Britain and has pieces in several public collections.
Her workshop is open to the public whenever she isn’t busy elsewhere. Please contact her by e-mail or phone to confirm opening times or to set an appointment.
The workshop also stocks a range of blown pieces by Jane Charles and Sanders and Wallace, glass jewellery by Connell and Hart, and Sara Withers, and leaded panels by Linda Gibbons.
