Clear crystal with veils of cobalt, dabs of purple and a smattering of silver ‘Little round bowl’ decorated with a shoal of pollack by Julia Linstead, Glass
This Little round bowl has a shoal of Pollack riding the waves of colour swirling around the bowl. “I never tire of drawing fish, I love the flow, symmetry, detail and diversity, but most of all I love the movement of a shoal swimming almost as one.” That whorl of fish and water is what Julia has tried to capture in this piece.
One-off pieces are where Julia gets to play with the glass, adding more layers of colour during the blowing process and decorating the glass with very intricate designs which she wouldn’t want to repeat.
Julia’s Little Round Bowls evolved from a desire to make pieces people are happy to hold and explore. They have a satisfying weight and are comfortable to hold in your hands. The shape of these pieces allows Julia to hide pattern behind the swathes of colour or under the curve of the glass. So, the only way to really appreciate all the design is to hold the piece in your hands, turning it into or away from the light and exploring the layers of pattern, colour, reflection and refraction.
An original design by Julia Linstead, Glass.
Hand blown lead crystal.
The pattern is hand drawn and sandblasted into the surface of the glass.
Approximate size 13cm high 13.5cm diameter
