Gold crystal with speckles of colour ‘Orb’ decorated with a design of tiny moths by Julia Linstead, Glass

£310.00

This little Orb has a core of gold glass suspended in clear crystal and enveloped in a smattering of specks of red, purple, greens and blue. It is decorated with a haze of tiny moths sandblasted into the surface and polished rim. “I was walking through some of the verges near my studio which had been sown with grasses and wildflowers; it was when they had just been mown, and the grass was drying to pale gold but there were still pops of colour from the last of the flowers. As I moved, I disturbed clouds of tiny moths which rose and fell around my legs.”

One-off pieces are where Julia gets to play with the glass, adding more layers of colour during the blowing process and decorating the glass with very intricate designs which she wouldn’t want to repeat.

Julia’s ‘Orb’ pieces evolved from the Little Round Bowls and the desire to make pieces people are happy to hold and explore. They are about half the size of a Little Round Bowl but still have a satisfying weight and are comfortable to hold in one hand. The shape of these pieces allows Julia to hide pattern behind the swathes of colour or under the curve of the glass. So, the only way to really appreciate all the design is to hold the piece in your hands, turning it into or away from the light and exploring the layers of pattern, colour, reflection and refraction.

An original design by Julia Linstead, Glass.

Hand blown lead crystal.

The pattern is hand drawn and sandblasted into the surface of the glass.

Approximate size 9cm high 10cm diameter

Price includes postage to mainland UK (Parcelforce 48).

Please allow 2 weeks for delivery.
